Climate denialists have called those who believe in climate change as murderers, tyrants and madmen. This doesn't seem logical given that some of the world's top leaders and experts have been calling for action as early as the 1950s. This 11 minute film by Peter Sinclair, provides a startling overview of just how long our top brains have been warning about climate change. The film features Margaret Thatcher's speeches of 1989 as well quotes from NASA scientist James Hansen; of the late biochemist and novelist Isaac Asimov; of theoretical physicist, author and cosmologist Stephen Hawking; of the late Cornell University astrophysicist and author Carl Sagan; of Microsoft’s Bill Gates; of Navy Admiral David Titley; or of Nobel Laureate, and now Secretary of Energy, Steven Chu. Sustainable Jamboree sees the carbon package as a very positive first step because polluting should not be free. Actually it’s much much more than a price on carbon (international research shows we need a range of complementary measures, eg to fund renewable energy). The climate science is getting more and more scary so it’s great to finally be getting on track towards fulfilling our Kyoto obligations and contributing our fair share of global action on climate change. We understand that many people are worried about the impact on their hip pocket, but this may be unfounded.
